The Number Every Jamaican Business Should Worry About

While the government wires up One ID, a separate and less comfortable picture has emerged about how Jamaicans and the wider Caribbean are actually using AI day to day. "What the study has found is a region that is not behind on AI, but one behind on the governance, the training, and the process redesigns," Dunkley said of the findings. That distinction matters. Jamaican businesses are not lacking access to ChatGPT or Claude or any other tool; smartphones and broadband cover most of the island. What is missing is the organisational work of turning a tool sitting on someone's phone into a process a business actually runs on, and the training to make that leap without an expensive consultant walking every owner through it by hand.
